Apple will deprecate 32 bit

Postby rfwilmut » Sat Jun 17, 2017 12:28 am

It appears that in about two years time Apple's system will no longer support 32 bit applications. This of course includes QuicKeys, which hasn't been updated for years. It's a program I depend on, but sooner or later I shall have to buy a new Mac and be forced to move from Mavericks to whatever system Apple are providing at the time, almost certainly finding that QuicKeys won't work. Is any attempt being made to update it, even if only to make it 64 bit?

I just purchased the latest Mac this week (MacBook Pro 13-inch, 2016, Four Thunderbolt 3 Ports) running the latest OS (10.12.5). Was able to install just fine.

That said, if Apple truly does drop support for 32 bit in a few years - that will definitely be an issue.

Yes, there's no immediate issue, but by all reports it's likely that 32 bit applications won't run on new Macs by 2020 - not really all that far away, particularly considering how long is is since QK was updated.

We are aware of the report on MacRumors. It is covered in our plans.
