QuicKeys vs. TextExpander

QuicKeys vs. TextExpander

Postby jwiegley » Tue May 22, 2012 7:38 pm

I'd like to get rid of TextExpander and just use QuicKeys, and I've found that recent versions of QK have just about let me do that. However, I've noticed a few things that TE still does noticeably better:

1. QK uses ~2.2% CPU while typing regular text (no expansions). TE uses ~0.7%. That doesn't sound like much, but it adds up and drains my battery faster.

2. TE expansions happen faster. Especially AppleScript ones. I have an abbreviation in both called "ttiny" that turns the URL in the clipboard into a minified URL. With TE the expansion is very quick, but with QK I can actually count out 2 seconds before it replaces with the expansion.

3. There is no grouping in QK, and no way to apply application exceptions to multiple abbreviations at once. This gets quite tedious, since I don't want any expansions happening in Emacs, where I use other mechanisms.

Thanks,
John
